How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat cream

Really like this hand cream for very dry hands. I slather it on at bedtime to give the hands a break and wake up with new hands! Reduces the painful cracking you can get near your nails on your fingers! Non greasy, very absorbable, doesn't make your clothes dirty, and has no perfumey smell. Will continue to buy.

3.0 out of 5 starsDoes not have much in the way of healing power.
Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2024
I did not find a very strong healing propensity. It was heavy residual cream feeling for quite awhile after application. It did have a OK moisturizing effect and that is what i found a use for. It did not help much healing the cracks in my skin at the finger cuticles, though after a week or so they are finally not so excruciatingly painful, so i guess you could say the moisturizing effect did help there after some time. I had some Watkins from years ago (20), my wife sold that was really good but seems to have lost it's healing properties. I have resolved to wearing rubber disposable gloves to keep my hands dry and that seems to help immensely with use of the moisturizing cream. Actually i found putting the O'Keeffes hand cream on heavy than wash off after about 15-20 minutes was helpful and bearable to where you could touch stuff. OK that's about it. Some other tricks but you will have to discover them for yourself. Peace Out

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for dry hands during winter or from hard work
Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2024
Size: 3.4 Ounce (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
My ex-wife introduced me to this stuff years ago, after my hands got pretty messed up from a combination of my extremely dry skin, my job being hard on the hands, and the cold dry air of winter. It's now winter time and different job but same issues. It's great at helping my hands heal and not have those patches (for me, it's my fingertips) where the skin cracks, bleeds, or tears. It has no scent, as far as I can tell. I like how it doesn't hurt if you put it on and you have a cut. It doesn't take long for my hands to go back to being not so dry and damaged.

It does make your skin a bit greasy, so that's why I use it before I go to bed. By the time I wake up, it's absorbed in and there's no sticky or greasy feeling. Highly recommended if you find that using lotion on your hands is not your thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars this stuff really works well!!!
Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2024

I purchased this because I am constantly washing my hands due to the work that I do and this keeps my hands constantly wet, therefore causing my hands to always be chapped and peeling. My hands get so chapped and cracked that they bleed and hurt. That is how bad they get... and with this cold weather, it does not help. After reading a few other reviews about O'Keeffe's and figured I would give it a try. This stuff works so well and my hands now are soft and no longer cracking. I been using this daily for 2 weeks and I only used half of the container. The secret is also rubbing it on thick at night, rubbing it in very well, and wearing cotton gloves. What I love is that this stuff is not greasy and it doesn't just sit on the skin but goes into it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't give up! Keep reapplying! - 5 star formula, minus 1 star for smell

*Original Review with Old formula* - (Dec 15, 2016)
I have been using this for about two months now. I had to use it religiously throughout the day and then again before bedtime to see results. If I stop using this, my dry patches around my hands would come back. I wash my hands often so I have to reapply several times. At the beginning I wasn't very satisfied since it felt like a temporary fix. One hand wash and it's back to dry so I decided to use it multiple times a day and it got a lot better. We have to put effort if we want to see results. It’s not an instant fix. When the skin is severely dry it burns/stings at first. I kept reapplying even with the pain and it lessened over time because it started to heal. I nearly gave up until I read someone else’s review. I repeat, don't give up! Unless you are certain you are having a bad allergic reaction.

*Edit/Update* - (Dec 25, 2021)
Lately I have been having bad flare-ups of rashes (eczema? I don’t know). I was using all sorts of different moisturizers (expensive botanical/organic stuff) and a prescription but majority either worsened or barely had any effect. I suddenly remembered this in my drawer. I only had a little bit left so I bought a new jar and realized formula has changed. It seems that the new formula removed Dimethicone, Ceteth-10, and Laureth-4. No new ingredients were added. The cream is still solid (non-drippy) in the jar but it applies thinner. You can rub it in a large area of body quicker due to the new consistency. It dries pretty similar to the old/original formula. Slightly waxy and sticky but not oily/greasy. It feels so much better than products like Vaseline. My skin feels soft and moisturized. It doesn't cause any oily sheen/shine on the skin. The new formula isn't fragranced but it does have some kind of wet smell. I don't recall the old formula having that. Thankfully it's tolerable. I think the new formula absorbs better into the skin. Initially I missed the thickness of the old formula but I quickly adapted. So far it’s not worsening my rashes. What a relief! Finally found a solution! Is it healing my skin? Yes, especially in areas that are mild condition. My hands look so much better compared to a week ago. I sometimes mix this with hydrocortisone. I will update in the future if necessary.

-Ingredients (new/current formula):
Water, Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Paraffin, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Allantoin, Octyldodecyl Stearate, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Acrylates/Acrylamide Copolymer, Mineral Oil, Polysorbate 85

My skin is now even better! It’s amazing! I can now confidently say this is my "holy grail" skincare. I’ll never forget this product in my drawer ever again. My skin looks fully healed. I am not getting frequent flare-ups either. I still use it everyday out of fear of it returning but I don’t apply as often throughout the day. I’m so glad this brand works for me because a lot of the other brands are greasy and uncomfortable to use. This is very tolerable like butter cream. I think I actually prefer their new formula; however, the smell is a little funky. The old one I don’t recall having any smell.

I recently discovered the best alternative to O’Keefe! It’s “Up & Up hand cream” from Target. It’s a generic copied version of O’Keeffe Working Hands. It smells a little better (like unscented baby wipes) so if you love O’keeffe but cannot stand the smell then I suggest trying that. Their ingredients are very similar but up&up has about 2 different ingredients (you can view comparison in my photo). Up&Up’s formula actually reminds me more of o’keeffe’s old formula.

Hi. It’s me again with another update/revision to my review. I recently bought O’Keeffe’s Healthy Feet (blue jar). It didn’t have any off-putting smell compared to Working Hands (green jar). The ingredients and consistency/texture are nearly identical. The difference is very minor that most people won’t notice. Allantoin is 5th in the ingredients list of Healthy Feet while it is 7th place in Working Hands. Healthy Feet is slightly more expensive but worth it for me since I don’t have to worry about the funky smell. I prefer Healthy Feet Cream (blue jar) over Up&Up’s (Target) generic version of O’Keeffe’s Working Hands.

*Update/Edit* - (Aug 20, 2023)
My last purchase of "Healthy Feet" in a jar was strangely gritty/beady and so I called the company to report it and they sent me a free replacement! So kind! I can confirm that if you reach out to them they will help. However, they sent me "Working Hands" instead. I lucked out by their mistake since I have been curious to repurchase Working Hands. I wanted to see if the funky smell was gone and yes, the smell is gone! Another confirmation. It smells like nothing. No odor. I guess I had two bad batches of Working Hands in the past and recently one bad batch of Healthy Feet. Kind of yikes but I still love them and will continue using their products. As always I will update my review if necessary.

I had cracked dried hands and used everyday at night with gloves and it worked so well. Only use once a day or a few times because it can get sticky if you overuse. This is way better than any hand lotion.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is My Jam In The Winter!
Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2024
Size: 3.4 Ounce (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
One gripe I have with the winter is my hands always get dried out, no thanks to having to walk a dog multiple times a day and being a guy that doesn't always follow proper winter weather attire at all times. Washing your hands 5-10x a day or more and having your hands get chapped outside is a recipe for dried skin and painful cracks.

I tried putting lotion on my hands during the day and at night, but during the day it ends up getting washed off relatively quick and overnight it doesn't seem to help much.

I decided to look for something more heavy-duty and found O'Keeffe's and have been a fan since. I can literally just put this on at night a few times when I notice my hands getting dry or cracked and within a few days they start healing. I don't need to use it daily, just once or twice a week or when my hand are looking and feeling dry or are in-pain from cuts. A single jar lasts the season or two, depending on how much you use per application.

My only regret is that I didn't find this sooner! I had some very painful winter seasons prior to finding this product!

Ryan
5.0 out of 5 stars good lotion, a couple notes
Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2024
Size: 3.4 Ounce (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
I haven't used a ton of different lotions, I just pick something up at random or use something I have lying around when it starts getting below freezing, as my hands tend to dry up a little bit during winter. There's a couple things I like about this enough to write a review about it:
- It's a thick compound, something between room temp coconut oil and softened butter. You really do not need to apply much for a sufficient moisturization of wherever you're applying it to. These two things together make one container last a really long time, I'll probably still be using this one container in two years if it doesn't go bad somehow, very good value for money.
- It doesn't make your hands slick. I can see why it'd be specifically marketed to working hands. You could keep this stuff in your garage and not have to worry about not being able to hold tools for the next 20 minutes. The lid is also rubberized and very easy to open.
- I don't have particularly sensitive skin, but I haven't had any negative reactions to the product. I also apply a bit to my face every other day or so. It apparently has one ingredient that may cause blackheads on the face, though I haven't had this issue.
- It really is unscented. You have to stick your nose right into the container to get any hint of a scent, and even then it's just a very neutral "clean laundry" kind of smell.
- I have an on-and-off problem biting my nails and chewing skin around my nails. I haven't specifically gone out of my way to get lotion around these areas, but my nails and skin seem to heal a little faster and a little bit cleaner/more evenly.

Overall, very satisfied with this lotion at this pricepoint. Will likely stick with this brand going forward.
