Hot foam!

My dear husband loves hot foam for shaving. He used to warm the foam by soaking the can in hot water in the sink while he showered. I purchased a less expensive canister warmer but it required very specific size cans which are not always available. It finally stopped wirking. This unit locks onto the top of the foam canister regardless of size, even a travel size can. The maker supplies a base for the travel size so the unit is balanced. This was expensive but my husbanded said the foam is very hot the entire time the foam is emmited.

I got this as a gift to replace my old hot lather machine. The new ones just don't heat up like the old ones did but this seemed to be better than most. It is also compact enough that I can load it in my shaving kit and carry it on the road. It will use the small travel cans and has an adapter base for them. I plug it in about 30 minutes before using to get the lather warm enough. I noticed after the last trip that it does warm up the travel cans better than the full size ones.

Update: 5/31/2016 I've now had this item 3 months. It takes longer to warm up than it did when I posted my original review. The best it now seems to do on a regular can (Barbasol) is luke warm. It still does a little better on the small travel size can. For the price, it is a disappointment after a short while

I love the hot lather...I had one many years ago while I was in the service but it wore out and I didn't replace it...but I remembered how it felt to have that hot lather...wonderful!! So comfortable and the close shave...After using an electric razor for over 20 years I decided to go back to lather and razor but couldn't find the hot lather machines in any of our local stores!!! The sales clerks in the stores didn't even know they existed...So my wife looked for it on Amazon and WOW!!! They still make them...we were elated! Anyway, it works great...we recommend it to anyone we know...you should think about doing a little marketing and placing them in some of the stores such as Walmart, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Target...etc... Thanks...It seems like so many of the things we remember as good are going out of style...I think it is time to revive this product!!!

After about 5 years, my old Conair shaving cream heater clogged up and could not be unclogged. I bought this one a week ago and have been happy so far.

The instructions state that it is not recommended for shaving gel, only shaving cream, but no reason is given. I use it with Edge shaving gel, and it works fine. It heats up more than my last Conair, which is great. It drips a bit after each use, but not enough to bother me.

The on/off switch is now on the cord near the power plug, instead of on the unit, which adds a measure of safety in case the unit is dropped into water. Because my power outlet is at knee level, I now have to bend down to turn it on and off.

Overall a good product; it works as advertised.

I bought this for my boyfriend who was looking for something to make shaving a little more enjoyable. He used it and loves it. The set up was easy. The cap fit nicely on top of a can of regular Gilette foaming shave cream and warmed up in a little over a minute. It's definitely not "hot" as some of the other reviews have noted but it was definitely warm enough to make a big difference. I plan on buying more for family members.

I have used a hot lather dispenser which was made by Conair for many years. It had stopped getting as hot as it should have several years ago but I was unable to find a replacement so I just left it on longer. I was better than not heating the lather at all. I found this Conair product on Amazon a few weeks ago and ordered it, It arrived in record time and I have been using it for a few days. It works perfectly. The lather get very hot in just a minute or two. I would recommend the item to anyone. If it last as long as my last one did I will remain a happy camper.

I am extremely disappointed in this product. First, the packaging was old. It had several stickers on it, torn off. There was an old red one like it had been on a sale rack! The top of the container is yellowed from age, sun exposure, I don't know what. Then the exposed can is sitting in the counter, not covered up! I have purchased several of these in the past with a container for the shaving cream that were a lot cheaper, $29-$39. I decided to buy him a more expensive one, it had good reviews. It doesn't work any better than the cheaper one though.

Good value for Warm lather

I was looking for a hot-lather product to heat my shaving cream on those cold mornings, or just when I am in a rush to leave and I do not have too much time to heat the water, my blade, and my face.

The product was by far the cheapest machine I found that had any possibility of performing to my expectations, the other products with good reviews were in a much higher price range.

This is described as a mobile machine, used for travel; I generally use it at my home in my master bathroom, but have traveled with it recently, and it definitely does not take up much room. I have yet to try the bottom holder included for use with travel-size shaving cream, but I don't see any reason why it would not work well.

I previously was an advocate for shaving gel over cream, but was told this has much better results with "foamy" shaving cream, and have since stuck with that.

As for the performance in heating the lather:
-If given time to heat up (I turn it on and come back 5-10 minutes later and it is done), the VERY FIRST part of the cream is very hot, followed by the remaining "warm" lather.
Personally I would prefer if there was some way to adjust the heat, as I would like it to be the very hot cream throughout the use, but for under $10, one cannot complain too much.

Overall I would give the product 4 stars, as it does as stated, but tends to lose heat if you are getting more and more shaving cream out of it after the first tiny bit. I presume if one was to wait a couple minutes between each dispense, it would heat back up, but I prefer not to stop shaving in the middle of the process.

3 Stars would be more deserved, but for such a cheap price, I feel that is a little low, 4 stars fits better as it is so cheap.

Almost Hot Shaving Foam

Conair Compact Hot Lather Cap Machine for Shaving Cream You probably can't beat this product for what it cost. Everything else is up in the hundred $ range. Seems to work as claimed. I use Gillette Foamy cream as suggested. (no gel, no menthol). To call it "hot" may be an overstatement. It is comfortably warm and smells pretty good. If the shave is any closer I think it is microscopically so. It is fun for the fastidious, much like eating soup out of a fancy bowl. I had none of the troubleshooting problems mentioned in the instruction pamphlet. It came quickly packaged with the unrelated DVD I also bought from Amazon to get the free shipping which was great. I've looked for this in stores but I live in Maryland, where it is hard to spend your money. You can't even find Gillette double edge razor blades here. (I think Amazon has those too.) I use a Parker safety razor, also from Amazon. You CAN find shaving cream in Maryland stores. Now if I could just get my hands on some English Leather or 007 after shave without having to buy a Wayback Machine from Amazon.
