5.0 out of 5 starsExcellent machine!
Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2011
I was looking for my first sewing machine after using my mom's machine for years. I wanted something that could handle heavy fabrics, and had a few bells and whistles. My plan was to go to the local vac and sew shop around the corner, try a few machines and go from there. What I ended up doing was researching on the web, and after reading hundreds of reviews, came across the Janome 7330. Nowhere could I find a single negative comment about this machine. Hoping I made the right choice, I ordered it and when it arrived, immediately got to work finishing some half done projects.

Pros-
Its quiet. You don't have to yell to be heard over this machine.
Its able to handle several layers of heavy fabric- I tried it out on a courderoy jacket, a fleece cape with a satin lining, and a few other things with several layers to sew through. It barely even slowed down when it got to the tough parts. I recently put it to the test with several layers of vinyl and heavy drapery fabric together and it slogged on through even when I thought it couldn't possibly do it.
It can sew your buttons on for you. This is a huge perk for me as I tend to avoid patterns with buttons because I really hate sewing them on. Just lower the feed dogs, set the stitch to zig zag at the right width for your button holes, and go.
Its super easy to change the stitch and adjust the length/width.
The work light is very bright- excellent since the area I am using it is rather low-light.

Cons-
I can't seem to get the buttonholer to work, but I had this problem on my mom's last two machines too. Pretty sure its something I am doing and not the machine itself. Even without it, setting the stitch to a tight zig zag and manually stitching the right shape was a breeze.

All in all, from what I've used it so far, I am extremely pleased with this machine and am very happy to call it my own. I don't feel I could have made a better choice. If you have the budget for this machine, read the reviews, do your homework, and if it seems like a good fit, you probably will not be disappointed in it. Its a GREAT machine! Do yourself a favor and read the manual. There's a lot of info in there that you can really use.

I'm editing to add that I've been using this machine for 5 months now, and am still in love with it. Its given me no problems at all and I have used it many projects. Do take care to remove your pins rather then sewing over them though as this machine will bend, break, or swallow them whole without warning.

EDIT: I've had this machine for five years now and only after recently going on YouTube was I able to find out how to use the buttonholer. See my attached photo. The white lever directly to the left of the needle is not the correct lever to pull down to use the buttonholer attachment. As far as I can see, it does absolutely nothing. The lever in the very back that is black is the one you want. So, after 5 years of trying to make a buttonhole, I can now do so easily and perfectly. Machine still works great and I've had no issues with it.

3.0 out of 5 starsDissappointed
Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2020
Disappointed in this machine and expected better going by the reviews and stand name. The needle doesn't even seem like it's centered. Sewed on it a little and switched the needle to a ballpoint, sewed ok for a little then about 10 min later it broke my needle. Not crazy about the buttonhole stitch either. Had a few other minor issues and was done with it. Maybe I got a lemon?

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use right out of the box and handles everything I throw at it
Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2013

I am not new to sewing, but it has been many years since I last sewed with my mother. I chose this machine on the recommendation of friends and blogs, and I am glad I did. It was easy to use right out of the box without even consulting the manual, and it has handled every project I have thrown its way with ease. So far, I have sewn with knits and corduroy, making dresses, purses, and decorations for clothing.

I have already used some of the features I thought were just "gravy," including the free arm and the needle-down stop setting. I have no idea how common the "needle down" feature is, but it makes turning the fabric a breeze. Sure, you can do that manually with the dial, too, but to have it set that way from the start? Easy peezy.

Another favorite feature: sewing without the foot pedal. I love that I can disconnect the foot pedal, hit start, and just go. I also enjoy how the machine always starts off a little slower and then speeds up. It gives me time for mental preparation.

I also love, love, love the way this sewing machine "feeds" the fabric. I barely have to guide it most of the time (except with crazy-stretchy thin knits).

Bobbin winding has given me a little trouble despite consulting directions. The machine always wants to wind the thread below the bobbin. I have tried everything (even holding the thread to guide it). I still run into that issue, although I always manage to get it wound. I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions? ETA: I figured out the bobbin issue. It was no biggie at all. When I was running the thread through the guide, I did not give it enough tension. Now I do, and voila! It works perfectly every time.

Other than that, I love this machine and cannot wait to try more projects, experiment with other presser feet, and see what else it is capable of.

Oh, and did I mention it is adorable? :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely sturdy and easy to use

I purchased a Janome Magnolia 7330 sewing machine for my wife and I to use for some household projects we've been putting off, and it's far surpassed my expectations. We've both used Singer and Brother machines before, and had nothing but problems with them. The Singers had constant spool or bobbin tension issues that made them almost unusable, and the cheap Brother we bought a few years back seemed to struggle with anything more than thin cotton or polyester fabric. Both of us had come to dread sewing, even for simple alterations. This Janome has just chugged along through everything we've thrown at it so far though, and has been a breeze to work with.

Let me list a few of the projects we've finally completed after years of procrastination:

1. New curtains and valances for eight windows, five of the curtain sets with a heavy upholstery fabric.
2. Repairs to two heavy canvas bags, including replacing several pockets that had holes in them.
3. Making snow jackets for both of our dogs out of acrylic fleece.
4. Taking in dozens of shirts/blouses, dress slacks, jeans, and even girdles.

Through all of those projects there have been no issues. The thread tension very rarely needed any adjustment and it has powered through all of the fabrics and thread types without a hitch. The only scare we had was when my wife accidentally cut things too close on an upholstery fabric that had metal beads attached and snapped off a needle. We both assumed that we'd damaged the machine or it would need some kind of realignment, but we were wrong. We just dropped in a fresh needle, tapped the button for our stitch type and everything worked. After years of using my Singers, that was shocking.

The 7330 may not have a hundred stitches or special attachments for elaborate work, but for everyday tasks it's amazing. My wife and I both are actually planning new projects now and no longer look at the sewing bench with dread. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who needs a sturdy and easy to use sewing machine.

I purchased this model of the Janome sewing machine when my Kenmore machine once again had bobbin case issues and the case became loose and would not sew. My husband graciously told me to get a new one since I was in the middle of making presents for people. I read very carefully all the reviews on this machine and then purchased it. It has lived up to all the great reviews I have read. I am not a pro at sewing by any means. I was able to get the machine and set it up and be sewing within about 30 minutes. I have to admit that I still do not know how to use the thread cutter on the machine and also have not taken the time to find out. I do though, find it very easy and fun to use. It has increased my sewing time and frequency alot, and I have now made a lap quilt on it. I pieced the quilt on the machine but did not quilt it- I am not that good yet.
I find the machine to be very easy to use, very nice, quiet, and quick change of stitch length, width/needle position, and stitch type. The machine is very easy to thread, and the bobbin is so so easy to use and refill. So far, I have been super pleased with this machine. It is not heavy, so I can lift it and move it. It sews very nicely. I have a friend who said she had heard of Janome, and she is a really good quilter. So I trusted in the reviews, which again, are accurate and helpful. I have been very pleased with this machine and hope it is my last machine I ever have to purchase. Very pleasing to use and to work with, ease of use is very very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars First Time Male Sewer

I decided to learn another useful hobby along with woodworking and the many others I've pursued and diligently researched many machines for a beginner. I wanted one that would allow me to ease into the hobby without too much hassle, and to allow me to grow into the advanced features as my skill progressed. Except for the daisies on the body ( :) ) I love this sewing machine! I've gone from novice to novice who's made a few things (pillows, hemming pants, and two skirts for my wife so far). I've used it to repair a strap on one of my wife's shoes, tailored a shirt, altered a jacket with this Janome, all without a hitch. I found if I start off too close to the edge I get a funny sound that turned out to be the thread getting tangle. No worries, and once you know, there's no issue. It's sturdy, very quiet, and in no time I felt like I knew what I was doing. Silly to say, but the first time I successfully wound a bobbin, it was quite thrilling! I think it's going to be something I will enjoy for a long time to come, and I've enrolled in several online classes (check out Craftsy) and bought several excellent books including the S.E.W. one by Diana Rupp, which is fantastic for beginners. This machine, for me, is simple, sturdy, and easy to figure out as it's been very reliable in the four months I've had it.

4.0 out of 5 stars great machine

I have had this for almost 2 months now and it's a great machine for the price. I love the bobbin system, never have any problems at all with it. I had a Bernina before but ended up having to give it away when we moved across the country. This runs a bit different then my Bernina did but it's also 1/4 of the price. I'm teaching my daughter to sew with it and for her it's perfect. There's a ton for her to learn and it does everything she wants to do. I wish it had a few more bells and whistles which just makes me think I am more intermediate than I thought I was when I chose the machine. I'm going to definitely give this to my daughter and get the Janome Memory Craft somewhere down the road. But for now this does me well and it's a fun, no hassle, machine.

My old Kenmore served me well for 20+ years. However, the last few years I’ve rarely used it as the thread kept jamming and I couldn’t fix it to save my life. It was going to be at least $150 to have it serviced plus any needed parts. I figured I might as well buy a new machine but was disappointed that Kenmore machines were no more. I also didn’t want to go digital, just wanted old school. Well that doesn’t really exist anymore. Then came COVID-19. I did some research and found this machine, and to my delight, though I had never heard of Janome before, I found out that they made my Kenmore! I did. It want a beginner machine, or a really advanced one, I just wanted to be able to make masks and repair clothing and other small projects. This has been great! Very similar to my Kenmore, has a good variety of stitches, and fits my skill level. I LOVE the built in needle threader! I know that probably sounds silly but my old machine didn’t have it and now that I’m starting to need readers...lol. Very happy with my purchase, no problems so far!

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 year review - My wife still talks about it like it's one of the kids
Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2021

2 years, 1.6 million face masks, some dresses and skirts I said were "nice" and a pair of repaired jeans I split the bum on later.

My wife literally talks about this sewing machine like its one of the kids. Look how clever Janome is. Oh my, Janome can make a criss cross stitch thing like no one else. See how fast Janome is! So fast!

I sometimes sit with her (my wife, not Janome) just so I can listen to her coo. After all I was the genius who bought this thing.

Pros: It is easy to use (maybe not a complete novice but if you know a little about electric sewing machines you can figure it out). Super flexible and has been able to do almost everything she wanted (or if it can't she hasn't complained about it much). It's produced a lot of masks (ok not 1.6 million but a lot) and the quality looks like the ones I paid $1 million for during the start of the pandemic (ok they weren't $1m but they were WAY too much for a strip of t-shirt cloth).

Cons:
Me: "Doe's it have any cons? That sewing machine"
Wife: "No." (Looks slightly disgusted I even asked.)

Summary: Shouldn't have to buy another one, because it's built like a brick wall.

I was looking for a sewing machine to replace my Singer 7640. I read so many reviews my head was spinning. After several months of research I finally decided on the Janome Magnolia 7330, then Covid-19 hit bringing the shortage of sewing machines, material and elastic. I kept checking the interne,t for any business that had the Janome 7330 in stock, two to three times a week. It was finally available on Amazon and I purchased my dream sewing machine. This machine is much easier to use than my old Singer. The drop-in bobbin is a must and it is super easy to change stitch length and from straight to zigzag stitches and it is quiet. This machine was twice the price of my Singer but so worth it! I would recommend this machine even for a beginner.

The Janome 7330 has been great. I learned to sew many many years ago, but am still a beginner. This sewing machine has made sewing fun, whereas my previous 20 year old machine jamed all the time, the thread constantly came out of the needle and the tension was never right. It has enough useable stiches that are fun to do, but not so many that its overwhelming. The auto threader is great and easy to use. It sews great on thick fabric and gets through many layers without problems. I bought it to make masks, but its so fun and easy to use that Im considering advanced projects.
Definitely happy with this machine and would highly recommend it.
