5.0 out of 5 starsWonderful Personal Shaver
Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2013
I bought this product back in August of 2010 and I’ve been extremely happy with it. The shape is very easy to use “down there” and can easily get into the more challenging areas women have to deal with.

I highly recommend trimming your hair to around 1/4” before using it; it can handle longer hair if necessary but it tends to pull a few hairs if they are more than about 1/2” in length. Also, use baby powder! I tried using this on bare skin a few times. Don’t. It’s much easier if you rub a little baby powder on your skin so that your skin is extremely dry and smooth.

There are a few things I don’t like about this shaver. I wish it was waterproof; I would like to use soap and water to clean it, rather than just brushing it off. I’ve not had any problems keeping it clean and sanitary so far but it’s something to be aware of it you plan to share it. I also wish it came with a bag and a cleaning brush. I have both of those items from previous electric shavers so I just used those l but it would have been nice to have those items included. Using a brush to clean the shaver is your best option - buy a toothbrush specifically for this if you don’t have one from another shaver. I’ve hit mine against my hand so many times to knock out hair that I ended up having to purchasing another one (note: it doesn’t like being hit; it still works but I have to tap it to find the right angle in order for it to turn on).

Overall, three years, countless uses and it still works well. It does not provide a smooth shave (such as you would get with a razor) but it does a great job removing hair without causing skin irritation or pulling too many hairs. The texture after use will be like stubble for course hair and complete removal for finer hairs. The shave is close enough that the hair would not be noticeable in a swimsuit. They batteries also last a long time (longer than they do in most other battery operated shavers). I hate the idea of waxing and I get really bad bumps when I shave so this has been the best product for me.

If you’re looking for a reliable, easy to use trimmer for “those” areas, get this one! It’s easy and will not cause pain. I'm looking forward to getting my next one this week, which I will be more gentle with.

I was so excited when I saw this product and read the reviews. I followed the instructions to a T and it just simply does not get my stubble at all. Mine lays flat. I thought that was the issue but even when I get them to stand up it doesn’t grab them at all. Maybe my hair is too think for the screen? Idk. But I was super disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars How did I not have one of these sooner

Alright, I'm gonna be blunt - I use this to manscape which, in case you live under a rock and aren't familiar with the term, means I use this to shave the hair on my genitals, as a male. This thing is pretty good - previously, I used an electric shaver and it really irritated/hurt if I wasn't VERY careful at all times. With this, I just PUSH it in a downward motion and, as long as the hair isn't too long, it goes smoothly and there is no risk of nicking myself or any stress - shaving down there used to be very stressful because of the risk to the family jewels. So, to summarize, as a dude:

Pros: Guard ensures you don't nick yourself, pushing it in a downward motion shaves smoothly and fairly comfortably, does an almost perfect job of shaving the remainder of hair that isn't too long (stubble-ish), basically results in smooth skin

Cons: If you drag it upward, I tended to notice a really uncomfortable (albeit not painful) tugging.

That's the only con and is easily remedied by pushing it downward and away instead of PULLING it downward or upward. Also, I should mention that this doesn't shave PERFECTLY smooth but I did not expect it to since it is not advertised to - it shaves very, very well and if I wanted an absolutely perfectly smooth shave then I would invest in a product of this company that is designed for miniscule hairs but this is more than adequate for my purposes - the hairs left over are barely noticeable, if at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars YES.

LOVE this shaver for going completely bare. I use it in two ways - (1) as an everyday shaver that will take the itch off but not leave any razor bumps, or (2) as a pre-shave before I go in with a disposable razor.

This shaver basically takes short stubble and makes it extremely short stubble. I wouldn't call it "smooth enough for a date", but on its own it is definitely good enough for everyday use... especially considering that I can use this shaver dry, no prep, just move it around in small circles and 5 minutes later I'm off and running. This, as opposed to a disposable razor where I have to go really slowly and carefully, in the shower, plenty of shaving cream, and 10 minutes later I'm mostly smooth (I think) but tender and possibly bleeding a little... and I still might get razor bumps despite all the extra effort.

I do find that if I use this shaver as a pre-shave before using a disposable razor, I can get a much smoother shave than with either alone.

I've used it several times a week for about a year. Any time my stubble starts feeling itchy, BOOM, out comes the shaver for a quick touch-up and much relief. I make sure to open it up after every shave and knock out the hairs that have accumulated inside. When it starts going slow or seeming a little less effective, I replace the C-cell battery and it's back up and running like a charm. Not a single problem so far, no nicks, no grabbed skin. Great product.

I would not recommend for use on legs. Too much skin area to cover. Not worth the effort.

4.0 out of 5 stars You MUST read the information on the BACK of the box
Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2012
Style: PS335 TrimmerVerified Purchase
I've seen a lot of people complain about the item and it seems to me that they aren't reading the back of the box, which has PRECAUTIONS on it. For those of you who don't know: Precautions like instructions, but urgent, and if you don't follow them the item could get damaged or hurt you.

It explicitly states to DRY SHAVE with the trimmer. No water, no soap, no oil, no lotion, NOTHING. It also states to NEVER wash it in water. It even gives you very distinct instructions on how to wash it- ""wipe it with a CLOTH soaked in a DILUTED water solution of NEUTRAL DETERGENT. Do NOT use thinner, benzene or alcohol for cleaning."

It also goes on to state that you need to replace the battery regularly and to NOT leave a dead battery in it (I think this drains the overall power of the trimmer faster). Then it tells you that you should only use it in certain temperatures- "within the range of 0*C and 40*C. Otherwise, the performance of the battery will be adversely affected." This means between 32*F and 104*F. So, if you are in your shower but completely dry, you don't want the water to be hot because the steam could affect the speed and efficiency of the trimmer.

Now that you've all been schooled, I'm going to give my personal review.

I stood in the shower with the water OFF and started to use the trimmer. It worked well, getting the hair without tugging too much. My hair is very thick, coarse and curly so I wasn't surprised when it caught a hair or too but it was completely painless. After a while, I figured I could turn on the water, leave in my shampoo and continue using the trimmer.

It became more difficult to use the trimmer as I had gotten the blades wet by trying to clean out the hair. Once the blades got wet, their efficiency significantly plummeted. It took longer to trim and it was a lot more difficult for the trimmer to grab at the hair, which had flattened to my skin. The trimmer is not designed to shave- it's a freaking trimmer. With the hair flat, and wet, the trimmer was almost useless. I did manage to get it to cut some of the hair but only after I pressed it to my skin- which the box ALSO says to NOT do. AFTER the blades got wet, they tugged at hair if I went at it at the wrong angle. It was a little frustrating but I KNOW it was my fault. I was using it for at least 30 minutes and it only took so long because I had gotten it wet so it couldn't even do it's job. Another downside to using it wet, aside from it being useless, is that hair clumps up under the blade. I haven't figured out how to remove the blade but I have been using my nail to scrape out the wet hair.

After I finished showering and dried off, I used it again and it worked perfectly.

It's kind of a diva of a trimmer but it's very comfortable to use and it can get anywhere.

To those who had trouble using it- READ THE PRECAUTIONS. You might want to give it another chance.

To those who are considering getting it- READ THE PRECAUTIONS. If you don't want a high maintenance trimmer, don't get it. If you're willing to work with it, it will be worth it. :)

Does work, but takes time and practice. Overall device is ok.

Con:
-Must pre shave all areas to very very short almost negligible stubble
-Only works for very very short stubble and best suited for not easy to access areas
-Some may need an "extra pair of hands" for assistance
-May take several passes for a clean shave

Pro:
-Will eventually provide a smooth shave after several passes

5.0 out of 5 stars It's all in the technique and having the right instrument.

I've been using this shaver to keep my pubic area smooth for more than eight years as of this writing. I also use a small personal shaver to shorten any pubic hair that is a bit too long to remove with the Cleancut, and a personal shaver is also what you'll need to trim pubic areas that you don't wish to shave smooth with the Cleancut. (If you use the Cleancut every couple of days or so, you'll probably not need to pre-trim your pubic hairs in those areas you like smooth to the touch.) Years before buying this shaver, I could only trim close with a personal shaver and never get the smooth shave I wanted in certain areas. I'd never used a razor blade for this purpose (scary to think of using one in this sensitive area). I came across articles and videos advertising the Cleancut after researching how to do this without using a razor blade, and I was sold. My technique for using the Cleancut is to gently touch it to the area to shave (and not slide it around) and repeat for all areas needing it (you'll hear it cut the hairs), and this keeps the nicks and irritation at a bare minimum if any. I do this without shaving cream or shaving powder so I can really see what I'm doing down there, and I've never had a problem. Using the Cleancut with a personal shaver keeps me trimmed and very smooth. The shaver has performed perfectly for almost a decade, so it's definitely well-made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shave "smooth as a baby's bottom"
Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2016
Style: ES412 ShaverVerified Purchase
I dropped my old cleancut shaver right on the screen cover & was just getting ready to reorder...I'm surprised this has received some bad reviews. I've used other types of personal shavers...they may have shaved more quickly & able to cut various lengths/types of hair, BUT they also cut "other" things that any sane person would try to avoid. They either had open blades or at least more exposed blades. Those exposed blades make delicate areas vulnerable. Ouch! And you can't get to certain areas without cutting yourself. Fact. This shaver has COVERED blades. The covering has TINY holes for hairs to reach blades...but nothing else. Meaning u CAN'T get cut. I just don't see how it's possible unless, perhaps, you have very very fine "chicken skin." The holes are so tiny, I don't even see how moles, skin tags, whatever, could get inside. It's a screen with very tiny pinpoint holes. You could shave INSIDE delicate folds & not get cut. Some people may not react well to metal. And the metal screen is only very slightly domed, so it is almost all flush against the skin. This gives a great close shave but if one is allergic to metal, I could see how certain people could be irritated. I haven't had a problem, even though most metals irritate my skin. I can only wear sterling silver or gold jewelry without irritation. But this shaver has been fine. ANY razor can cause ingrown hairs. If that's a problem for you, there is an after-shave lotion you can buy to prevent that. There IS a con to this razor but I don't see how it could be prevented without exposing the blades & allowing for possibility of cuts: because the holes in the screen are so tiny, it can't cut long hair that is laying down. The hairs need to stand upward to get to the blades. This can be addressed by trimming the hairs short first, or pulling your skin taught, or tilting this shaver in different directions (like in a circular motion). Your skin cannot be wet or sticky, or the screen doesn't glide. If you want a baby butt smooth shave, lightly powder your skin first. This shaver doesn't leave stubble if you're patient and shave in slow circular motions while slightly tilting in all directions. It takes longer than other shavers to shave with this one, BUT that's because of this shaver's design- it allows it to give closer shave & not be able to cut skin (tiny holes in razor shield made to sit flush against skin. And the more often you use this razor, the quicker and easier the shave because the hairs will have an ideal short height that easily reach the blades. The screen is removable to clean the blades. Included:Blade cleaning brush, plastic cap to protect screen from dents, and velvet drawstring bag to keep it all together. A safe, thorough, close shave in the downstairs area used to be impossible for me (I can't have control over a blade I need to see). The beauty of this shaver is that you can shave in places you can't see, without fear of getting cut. This shaves the facial area well too. I could also see this being a great product for someone who has shaky hands and can't safely tweeze or shave with a regular razor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smoother than a razor if you follow my directions
Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2023

Best electric shaver ever if you know how to use it, closer and smoother than a razor with no cuts or ingrown hairs.
Bought one for my girlfriend and later one for me for shaving those intimate areas and it does an incredible job.
First of all this thing will not trim hair, use the "t" shape trimmer for that, the shaver only removes 1 or 2 day stubble.
Do not use wet or right after getting out of the shower. The dryer your skin is the better. I usually use it before a shower, that seems to work best.
As I said use it daily and on dyr skin. Lightly and slowly drag the shaver opposite the direction of hair growth with the shaver slightly angled so that your stubble goes directly into the holes in the foil dome. On those really sensitive loose skin areas just barely touch the skin and you will be amazed at how good a job this thing does. I did read someplace that this thing is a major choice of porn stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does a very good job
Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2010
Style: ES412 ShaverVerified Purchase
I am a female and I bought this shaver for my bikini and genital area. I personally think it does a better job on the genital area than on the bikini area. It really makes a difference at what angles your hair grows, and if your hair is on the smoother side and grows very parallel to your skin (like it does on the areas that would show right around my bikini line), it's tough to get it all with this shaver. It does a good job on the more coarse hair in more intimate areas, as those stand at more of a perpendicular angle (especially when they're short and stubbly after having been shaved a few days before).

You will have to pull gently at your skin and/or hold it in a kind of pinched way sometimes to make sure you get all of the hairs at an angle the shaver will reach, but none of that is painful and it does work. You'll also have to go over each area more than once, so plan on devoting a few minutes to the process (more than that for your first time or two), because you won't be able to get it all super quickly with the multiple runs over areas and the need to stretch and pull your skin. I haven't really had any experiences of it pinching or nicking my skin. Do use some sort of baby powder, particularly in damper areas to make the skin dry and easy to run the shaver over.

I use a compressed air can, along with the little cleaning brush that comes with it, to clean it after each use. I don't think the brush does a thorough job on its own.

Overall I'm quite happy with this product and would recommend it as a worthwhile purchase. I have to use it pretty much every day to stay truly smooth, and there are a couple tiny areas that I tend to run a razor over (going in the same direction as the hair so it won't create razor burn) after using the shaver just because the hair in those places isn't at enough of an angle for the shaver to really reach. You would definitely need to use a trimmer to get the hair to a short stubble before using this shaver; I opted for actually shaving everything with a razor first, and then using the shaver to shave the stubble once it started growing back a day or two later, and have continued doing that stubble maintenance ever since.

The battery life is also pretty good. I've had the razor for about six months now and have changed the batteries only once so far, probably a couple of months in, while using it every few days.
