1.0 out of 5 starsFriction burns/doesn't pluck hairs well
Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2023
With a different brand I could do this once and go for WEEKS without ANY hair regrowth, and it really only hurt the first time. This one, however, I can use it and have a thick growth days later, as if I had just manually shaved. It doesn't pluck well: a ton of breakage, no matter the length of the hair, and this results in a lot of pain each time--as though each time is my first, extremely painful time--as breaking is generally more painful than the actual plucking. It never gets better with this model.

Also, WARNING: There is a "cover", but it doesn't cover the rollers, and these rollers--no matter how lightly the epilator is pressed against your skin--cause friction burn and bleeding, while unfortunately, still not doing it's job.

This all results in pain. Pain while not actually doing any good. Not when you have to shave again manually days later after letting your armpits heal.

I'm just really glad I missed my return window so the raccoons at the landfill get the chance to enjoy it as much as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good buy overall, still learning to use it.
Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2023
Color: PinkVerified Purchase
For the most part, I've figured out the best way to use this, but I'm still learning to give myself smooth legs. I bought this on the advice of my sister after I told I'd just had my underarms waxed but that having my legs waxed wasn't affordable for me. She owns a more expensive model that I didn't have the money in my budget for. I did a lot of research and chose this epilator. It worked really well on my underarms, which I'd had waxed about a month before, but it was very painful on my legs. I did a little research; one of the sites I went to suggested that I shave my legs and then try epilating a few days later, taking some ibuprofen about an hour before I start. My leg hair grows super-slow, though, so that didn't work out too well for me. I gave myself a three week break and tried again. My legs are still ever-so-slightly stubbly but less so than before, so I think I'm going to try using a month-long interval and extending my time if that doesn't work out. I'm confident that it will eventually work out for me, though that may require me waiting up to six weeks between epilation sessions.

One tip I want to give for someone new to epilation is to use jojoba oil to soothe your skin after epilating. Jojoba oil is very similar to the sebum our skin naturally creates. I happened to have some on-hand and used it after epilating the first time. It really helped!

4.0 out of 5 stars Detailed review
Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2016
Color: PinkVerified Purchase
This is my first and only epilator so far, so I don't have much to compare it with. I bought this to use mainly on my neck and chin hair that is particularly tenacious. I am not new to hair removal and have tried everything on this area so far. Depilatory creams work, but I get a rash and they smell. Threading hurts A LOT, shaving didn't last longer than a day, and waxing was just getting expensive to do on a weekly basis. I decided to try epilation. I am new to that.

For my fellow newbies, epilation isn't like shaving because unlike shaving, epilators pull the hair out of skin rather than cutting the hair at the base. Epilator heads basically have a bunch of tweezers on them, and tweeze the hair out when you run the across the designated area. I was told that you epilate against the grain of the hair and have found that that works on arms and legs. Epilation in either direction seems to work for neck and chin hair that sort of grows in all directions.

This epilator is small and easy to handle. Another reviewer said that she/he got a used one by mistake, so I will say that the new box looks metallic purple in color and has the epilator (as you see it on Amazon.com) encased in a plastic case that protrudes from the box. My epilator came with pictorial instructions, a wall plug and cord that connects to the epilator, as well as a two-headed brush to clean out the tweezer head. The head itself can be popped off to clean. When the head pops off, there is a small disc on the underside that can be turned manually so that the tweezers can be individually cleaned with the brush. I know that some epilators are battery operated but this one plugs directly into the wall. The cord is technically long enough to plug into a wall by the sink and then epilate sitting on the floor below, but when I tried that there was a bit of tension in the cord, so if you have a closer outlet, that is helpful. Not a short cord, per sé, but it could be longer.

Actually using the epilator was pretty easy. You just hold it at a 90 degree angle to the hair and run it across the area. It has two speeds, medium and fast. I found that it was good to start on medium speed because it was my first time. You don't need to push into the skin but you do need to hold the skin taut. It gets a lot of really long hair but sometimes breaks the hair. I have just been running it over the same area a second time and it's been fine. It seems like this epilator doesn't generally pick at skin and make it bleed, If I run it over areas that have no hair it just buzzes and leaves that area alone. However, I do bleed when I run it over areas that have hair and acne. I have to wait for the acne to dry out/clear up in order to use the epilator. Maybe people who are epilator veterans know this, but I didn't. Oops.

The difficult thing with any sort of hair removal is that there will be pain, but I find this to be less painful than threading (by a lot!). Another one of the reviewers suggested using a face wash before chin epilating, and I find that that works for me. It keeps the area clean and dry and makes epilation easier. I also put aloe on right after epilation and have seen only a few red bumps on my skin because of it. They still come, but not many.

In general, the epilator seems to work on small areas if you want thorough hair removal. I haven't had much success on large areas like legs, although the epilator has thinned the hair in those areas. Perhaps my lack of success comes from my being a novice. Perhaps a more experienced person knows more tricks. I don't know. It also seems a good idea to have a tweezer handy to catch those few refractory hairs that the epilator just
doesn't catch.

Good luck, and I hope that this review was helpful. I bought this product through the help of detailed reviews and hope that I could return the favor.

3.0 out of 5 stars Remington EP7030 more effective than Braun SE7681
Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2013
Color: PurpleVerified Purchase
Update:
I've left my previous below. It's been 2 years since I've been using this and the epilator's head unit has stopped rotating. The base unit will turn on, but when I attach the head, it runs slowly and unevenly, then it stops. There's a red light that comes on and I can hear a squealing sound like it's jammed. I've always cleaned it after each use and I know that it's not running because of the battery life. It runs when the head unit isn't attached. Sigh. Unfortunately, my warranty ran out a couple of months ago.

I can apparently purchase a new head unit for this epilator, but I'm on the fence about it now. The interchangeable guards are loose when they are on and the wide guard popped off a couple of times when it was in use. I thought this epilator would have lasted longer than 2 years. I always used it dry and I did like the results, but I will be looking for a corded epilator next time. I'm hoping they are built sturdier and last longer than a cordless model.

*Now the base unit alone will run for a few seconds before it stops woking. Sigh.

Old review:
Let me preface this review by stating that I have used epilators in the past and have pretty thin hairs on my legs. I wanted an epilator to use dry on my legs, underarms, bikini area and face. I have tried a few different epilators recently and so far, I like the Remington EP7030 the best. The most comparable epilator I've used is the
Braun SE7681 Silk-épil 7 Wet and Dry Epilator, White . I have not used either wet because I've found in the past that dry epilating works the best.

They are both use a similar style tweezing action to remove hair. They both are wet/dry, for face and body, have multiple attachments for use on a single head, use two speed settings, have a light, and are rechargeable.

The biggest and most important difference I've found between the two are: the rotation speeds of the tweezing heads. The Braun Silk-epil 7 on it's lowest setting is much faster than the Remington. I found that the overly rapid speed of the Braun, cut more hairs rather than pulled them out. It also pinched my skin and even left me with cuts and red follicles (red dots) in places were the hairs were yanked out too rapidly or cut. I have a few scars from it now. The Remington's slower rotation speed, in my opinion, made for a far more effective epilating experience. The slower speed allowed the tweezers to actually grip the hairs and yank them out. I understand the logic behind quicker hair removal, but if you're constantly going over the same spots because of missed hairs or cut hairs that you can still feel and see - what is the point of using an epilator to quickly remove hair? I really wish manufacturers would make the speeds adjustable, or offer more speed settings.

I only really use the wide angle cap and the slowest speed setting. The rest of the attachment heads don't really allow for epilation of short hairs. It takes a little bit of experimentation to find the best way to use this. I found that starting at about a 45 degree angle and making short strokes into a 90 degree angle to the skin works the best. It's like you're making a "scooping" action. The light can look a little purple-ish in places because of the color of the plastic and I wish it showed more of the skin directly in front of the epilating head. The light seems a little far ahead of the area you are working on. I still love that it has a light though! I wish we were allowed half stars on reviews, but even with the design flaws this is still the most effective epilator I've found.

If pain is an issue for you and you don't want to buy a numbing cream or spray, I would suggest using ice before and after you epilate a section at a time. For prevention of ingrown hairs, I've found that dry brushing and/or using an exfoliation cloth
2 Asian Long Exfoliating Back Washcloth with a acne body wash containing salicylic acid (BHA). If you still get ingrown hairs, allow the acne body wash to sit on your skin a little longer before washing it off. As a side note, if you are allergic to aspirin, do NOT use salicylic acid. Instead use something with glycolic acid (AHA).

I hope this helps someone. Remember, everyone is different and your experience may be completely different, but keep trying different products until you find the right one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It!
Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2015
Color: PurpleVerified Purchase
Although I have given very few reviews on Amazon, I feel so strongly about this epilator that I simply had to recommend this wonderful product. This is my first epilator. At age 60 something, I have been increasingly struggling to manage my old lady chin hairs. Who knew you start growing WHISKERS as you age?! This has been an ongoing and silently maddening problem for me for several years now. I have been tweezing daily.

Finally fed up, I looked into permanent hair removal. My goodness, the expense!!! So I decided to try an epilator before going to such extreme measures. I read many reviews on Amazon and decided to try the Remington. They have been making shavers for decades, so I figured they know a bit about hair removal. I have only used the epilator twice, but after only my second use, my face has been hair free for 5 days! FIVE DAYS!!! It is so amazing, I keep rubbing my chin and mustache area to make sure I am not imagining things!

I use the middle size guard thing, set it on low speed, and go slowly, pulling my skin taut like men do when shaving, repeating areas until I no longer feel any hairs being pulled. Having tweezed for years, the pain seemed minimal to me (I do have pretty sensitive skin), but at any rate, I was prepared for some discomfort. This hair problem has had me so unhappy, I was willing to put up with almost any amount of pain, if the hair could be kept at bay.

This just solves so many problems for me, especially travel issues. I can pack this with me for trips lasting longer than a week. No more tweezers confiscated at the security check in! No more waking with whiskers! No more five o'clock shadow!

I have course and fine hair on my face. I am hoping, as stated in many reviews, the hair growth continues to become less and less as I use the epilator more. I may try this on my underarms and legs at a later time. For me the simple joy of not having to tweeze my face daily, is quite simply a miracle. I plan to buy another one of these and tuck it away for future.

If you hate the hairs on your chinny chin chin, PLEASE try this. With lovely Amazon you have 30 days to return it, so what can you lose besides disgusting, awful whiskers?!

If my opinion changes, I will write an update, but for now, I am one happy woman!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product. I am not experienced with epilation
Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2016
Color: PinkVerified Purchase
Great product. I am not experienced with epilation. I have researched it on the web but this is my first time using one. My advice is do read the instructions. I figured that it was self explanatory so the first time I used it a few days ago I just ran it across my leg like a razor. The instructions recommend using small circular motions. I would say that I have fairly thick hair that grows on my legs. When I initially did it with the same motion I use for a razor I did indeed notice that the hair was being cut off and not pulled from the root. This in turn left me with a wicked ingrown hair on one of my legs. I am a single mother of 2 with a hectic daily agenda so I did not have enough time to do more then the one leg that day. I later read the directions and when I found some time tackled my other leg. This time, with the more precise small circular motions, I noticed that I would say over 90 percent of the hairs came out with roots intact. As far as pain, as I said I have 2 kids and a few tattoos therefore the pain was not as bad as child birth but I can easily compare it getting a tattoo. It has a pinch feeling with a mild burning sensation afterwards. As most people using hair removal products know beauty comes at a price, small amount of pain to endure with the possibility of only having to use it once a month or so. So I would give this product 5 stars and recommend to a friend. Great product, great style.
UPDATE: I have now been epilating for a few weeks. I am enjoying the end results very much. At this point all I can say is that my pain tolerance has gotten significantly higher or the skin that I epilate is getting tougher. I can say that I am no longer having any issues with ingrown hairs. Also that there are certain areas of the body that are going to hate having a epilator on it (arm pits and bikini line). On an additional note, I have read in previous posts about epilation where people say they are very hairy and once they epilate that they no longer have to do it except for once a month or so. This is something I find to be untrue. I would say when it came to shaving I had to do it everyday to keep any hairs from growing back, with epilation my legs still need to be epilated every 3 days, I have noticed that my arm pits and bikini line (where hair is obviously thicker) need less epilation (every 5-7 days) which to me is a win, being a fulltime mom, employee and part time student anything less frequent is better :) Hope this review helps with your purchase!

2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible battery life, inefficient hair removal
Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2022
Color: PurpleVerified Purchase
Received this product in December of 2021, worked fine first few times, but the battery life left something to be desired, only lasting 30-40 minutes, only letting partial epilation job to be done. As time passed, with infrequent use (less than 6 times total), the battery is now completely inoperable, despite not leaving the device plugged into charger 24/7.
Battery issues aside, it takes multiple passes to remove everything in an area. This is with me saying that I do not have coarse or particularly tough hair, on top of the area already being partially cleared of hair prior. Not only is it inefficient in hair removal, it is quite painful compared to other epilators.
Can be used in the shower, works fine to reduce pain, but the hairs stick to the skin, therefore not recommended. Comes with many attachments, none of which I used, but appear to be useful.

Overall, unacceptable durability and use time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Painful and ineffective
Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2024

I thought this would be a good alternative to shaving and waxing. Tried it on my armpit after growing the hairs out enough and cleaning it and everything.

Oh God, it is so much more painful than waxing! Waxing hurts, but it's over and done quick. This you have to go slowly to even get a few hairs, and then you have to go over and over and over like 20 times to get most of the hairs. I couldn't get all the hairs no matter how hard I tried. I felt awful afterwards and couldn't bring myself to do the second armpit.
