Mat is Awesome; Packaging not-so-good

Ok, firstly, this is a gorgeous, thick mat, double-sided and far better than any cutting mat I have seen in any of my local huge craft stores. It is also less expensive; even with big coupons, I could not get a mat this size for anything near what I paid for this mat. So five stars for that! And despite what I have read in one of the comments, there was no off-putting odor.

That said, I have to mention the packaging it was shipped in. It arrived in a frame box, squished, with the mat having slunk down, curling itself on the bottom. On removal from the shipping box, the mat was decidedly wavy, like it was molded that way. I have tried to bend it back to flat, but presently have it flat on a table with heavy things on it, hoping for it to flatten out more with the pressure. It has been 24 hours and there has been improvement; I am hoping for more. I may need to sandwich it between two hot cookie sheets if pressure alone does not work. I urge the manufacturer to either put in baffles in the shipping boxes to prevent the mat slumping and curling within the box they are presently using, or better yet, just make a big cardboard envelope for it out of the sides of the boxes. It is a flat thing, after all. I will be doing just that out of the shipping box for my closet storage.

Edit: Used the heated cookie sheet with heavy things on top and it worked well. Mat now flat.

Not for quilting

This is NOT for quilters. It came in a 3 to 4" wide box which gave it some really bad bows all across it. I layed it in the sun for 3 days (very warm weather), then put bricks on it in the sun and even tried the iron. It is a lot flatter than it was but while cutting material I can still feel the ups and downs of some of the bows that did not come out. I thought laying on my cutting table would finish the fix but it has not. I called the vendor and let them know how it was shipped. Most quilting cutting mats are shipped in a box just big enough to slide it in to avoid the bowing. They told me to put it in the sun for a few days and that would take care of it. I can use it, but as you know with quilting I have to be careful about the bows while cutting making sure it is flat to the table before cutting the material.

Good Workspace/ Desk Cover

On the thicker side maybe 1/8" thick, but makes a really nice desk or workspace cover. You really don't want to be damaging your desk whether it's wood, metal, or plastic. I'd prefer a mouse pad or mat, but if you're doing arts and crafts type projects it's better to have a surface that's more durable and easy to clean which is what I got this mat for. Word of warning, it holds its shape very well and is prone to warping. I suggest to leave it in one place instead of moving it often since it will warp again after not being flat. Seen some people say a heat gun works well to flatten it and to heal deep scratches. Good for what it is, but pretty dang expensive. I really don't think there's any reason these plastic mats are so expensive.

My Favorite Cutting Mat!

This is the best cutting mat I have ever had. First, it's pretty, Second you can switch it up - one side is pink and the other side is blue. It is so durable and strong. The only negative thing that I can say is my fault - it's that I keep it on the floor of my craft room when I'm not using it because I don't have a proper place to store it. It doesn't matter though because this mat is uber useful and this is one sacrifice I'm glad to make. When that mat comes out and is placed on my dining room table it's craft time! hahaha!

High quality multi-layer cutting mat

Nice and thick, multi-layer and 2-sided just as described. The surface is slightly softer than typical (less expensive) rotary cutting mat and the multi-layers ensure it doesn't curl up or warp over time. This is as close as I could find to a decades-old mat that I really like (and still have and use also) that's no longer available. The markings on this mat are quite bright white; easy to see and line up with materials. Yes, I'd recommend.

Great but size is misleading

This is a great quality cutting mat. It arrived flat, with no warping. The grid lines are accurate and easy to see. But it is not a 24 x 36 mat. It is 23 x 35, with a fraction of an inch outside the maximum grid lines. I was replacing an old, worn mat, so I am disappointed that I now have a smaller mat. The item description needs to be corrected.

I bought this mat to replace the old one that has been in use almost everyday for over 10 years. Now I use the old one for things that don't need to be precise. The new one is for delicate and precise cuts for my crafting projects. If it lasts 10 years like the last one, it would be a great buy too.

I love the brighter color instead of the green or blue you traditionally see. My eyesight is not what it used to be and the brightness helps me to see everything I am doing. Love it. I do wish they maker would have made it 36" and charged a bit more. Having the yard measurement is handy. That is the only thing I do not like on this mat, is that it is only 35" in length.
