I really like this product. I've only used it for a few days but already I'm a fan. I'm not very keen on paying 20$ for only 2 ounces, but this is the best wax I've yet used (in all fairness, I haven't tried more than maybe 3 waxes, but still).

PROS:
1. a little goes a long way. i have hair maybe 7 inches long on top, from front to back (shorter as it goes back) (hair type: straight, thick) and I'm maybe only using a quarters sized dab for the hold that i need to get me through the day.
2. great hold (i'd rate it 7.5 out of 10). i don't use this as a pre-styler (for that, I use volumizing mousse) but rather i use it as a finishing product, into completely dry hair (achieved with a blowdryer).
3. you hairstyle can be adjusted throughout the day - the hold remains strong, and it's easy to run your fingers through your hair without tugging or feeling weighed down. (for the most part)
---as a side note to this, i work as a vet tech, and i do a lot of bending, leaning, positioning myself in ways that means my hair might fall out of place - the hold of this product isn't on the level of hairspray or gel, but the tradeoff is that your hair remains feeling light and natural and workable, and can be put back into place with effective hold. gel and hairspray gives you crunchy/crispy feeling hair and that's not what i'm after.
4. the smell. my god, this stuff smells so good. this product smells to me like vanilla icecream or yogurt. vanilla for sure, but to me it has to be some kind of creamy, dairy infused vanilla scent. anyways it's amazing, and i think a lot of people would enjoy the smell of it.

CONS:
1. applying it into blow-dried hair is easy enough, but you will experience some tugging and drag as you work it in. this is only a con if this is how you apply it. i didn't care for it as a pre-styler (I found it didn't give my hair as much volume as i wanted) and as a water soluble product, i feel that applying it into damp hair gives you a weaker hold than what is intended.
2. i wish the jar was a little bit bigger for 20 dollars. i'm not sure how long this will last me, but at the rate i'm going through it (using a little bit of it every day), i'd say it'll last a month, maybe? i'll try to remember to update this review when i run out of it.
3. it takes some time for the wax to 'set'. after applying it, your hair will feel a bit clumpy or weighed down, but as you brush or finger-comb it into place, your hair will feel lighter and less 'full of product'. at this point you can then run your fingers through it and re-position or style it as you want.
4. you may experience some tugging or resistance when re-styling well after the product has 'set' and your day has gone on. i'm not sure if this is because my personal regiment needs adjusting or i need to add different products/change quantities, but i've felt some substantial resistance on a few occasions. however this is far from a deal breaker for me because it's only in certain areas where i might feel a snag - for the most part, it's easy to run my fingers through.
5. this isn't a product specific con, but in general - it's going to take some experimentation to find out what works for you and how to most effectively use the product to get what results you want. this is often dictated by other parts of your hair care regiment (what shampoos/conditioners you use, how often you shampoo/condition, what other products do you use as pre-stylers (mousse, oil, texture paste/powder, etc).

overall i recommend this product. it might not work so good for people with curly hair. it gives me the hold i need and i'm able to keep my hairstyle up throughout the day with a nice, subtle shine and great smell that won't quit until after i've clocked out.

I bought this version over there other product due to the description of a stronger hold. I have fairly short hair and just wanted something to give it style and last through most of the day. Turns out it has next to no hold and literally less than an hour after applying it my hair is back to looking like normal. The only positive thing I have to say about this product is it has a nice orangy smell to it. Although it should come with a warning that it attracts flies like crazy. I work and spend most my time outside and I cannot stress enough how much this draws flies to practically swarm me and my hair. Bugs flying in my face drives me insane, so having to deal with them all over me for an 8 hour period made me want to die. This happened everyday I had this crap in my hair and has never took place with any other product my entire life. I will never be using this product again even though the container is nearly full and even if they offered me another one for free I would immediately throw it away. My $5 axe gel I had years ago was better than this and that's really saying something. Absolute garbage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't eat it

So far, my favorite product. Getting it out of the container is similar to other hard waxes. For those that have not tried hard pastes/waxes before, this will come a little surprising. On the instructions printed on the container, it hints towards this when it mentions to "work vigorously" into hands. On that note, you have to manhandle this stuff. This isn't a con; it's an instruction. Pretend you're making fire with your hands for a second. Rub that sh*t together like you have a pair.

It has the right amount of hold for what I want. It doesn't have hormonal teenager stiff gel hold. It doesn't have Wayne Static spiking hold. It holds the general shape and volume and adds some texture good for pompadour or similar hairstyles. You can play with it throughout the day without losing much effectiveness.

Water-soluble, so it doesn't hold up incredibly well after getting drenched in the rain, but who gives a sh*t. If you do: buy an umbrella.

It's not easy to get completely out of your hair in one sitting. Who cares? The residuals are not going to affect you. You shouldn't be treating your hair like your laundry anyway. Your girlfriend/boyfriend/mother might care about skidmarks left in your briefs or white stains in your socks, but no one's going to be having a pained conversation with you about hair product residuals. You won't even notice after you dry your hair anyway.

Side note: I'm not joking, stop trying to get every microscopic bit of oils and hair product out of your hair. You'll ruin it. Shampoo is serious sh*t.

A jar won't last as long as a hard wax would, so the price isn't as appealing, but it certainly isn't a deal-breaker. I'd say price is fair. (currently $20/2 oz)

To conclude: Medium hold, barely any extra shine, withstands the day sans rain, cost-effective enough, women love it, smell makes me hungry.

Pictures taken after a full work day.

Angel Rodriquez
4.0 out of 5 stars Clumpy and impossible to spread throughout hair
Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2017

UPDATE: While I still regard this as a product that I would not purchase, I am upgrading my review from one start to four stars based on Mister Pompadour reaching out to me and making the situation right. I am a big advocate of great customer service and they definitely stepped up their game, here. Mister Pompadour reached out to me, apologize for the poor product, then worked with me to determine a product from their line that would work for me. In the end, they sent me the Sculpting Clay, which I absolutely love. While the Beeswax Paste is not something I would use again, I am very happy with the new sculpting clay, which has a nice light hold and pleasant smell.

ORIGINAL POST:

There is another similar review on here and I wonder if we both got bad batches because this was the worst hair product ever. Was impossible to spread out. Was like trying to somehow take small bits and pieces of torn styrofoam and somehow work that into your hair. I tried working the paste like suggested but that only made it far worse and clumpier. Would not spread out in hair at all and even using a comb just made me feel like using this product would 100% always result in risking having giant paste clumps in my hair in places I might not have seen (the back) while working it through.

I worked it in my palm with warm water and even tried cold water and just kept trying to spread it out as much as possible in my hand as I could before putting it on. The water did not help one bit.

I would hope the company would reach out because I honestly don't know if it's supposed to be this horrible.

I wanted to find something more naturally sourced to replace the Imperial Classic Pomade I had been using for a while. The main qualities I wanted were a matte finish and a strong hold. This beeswax paste was the perfect replacement. Be forewarned that the paste is very thick but smooths out quickly once you spread it on your hands. It also has a scent of vanilla, which I personally like. I would say the hold is about as strong as you can get and as such it takes a bit longer to work through my (thick) hair before it is evenly distributed. The hold stays right all day even though I often run my hands through my hair, but the paste washes out with ease in the shower. The matte finish is great, just how I like it. The container isn't particularly large, but I haven't had it long enough to know how many uses i'll get out of it. I'm thinking around 2-3 months of daily use at most. This is also a company based out of NC, which I didn't know until I saw the container. Happy to support a local company from my home state.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a great hair product!
Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2016

Update July 2023:
The scent associated with this line of hair product changed a few years ago, and I couldn't be happier with the decision. Instead of a heavy floral odor, the product has a light, pleasing chocolate aroma. I don't always smell it, but when I do, it's actually enjoyable. This product does a great job styling my now shorter hair. I don't have any suggestions for improvement. This is a great hair product I hope they continue to make for a very long time.

Initial Review: I was eager to try this hair product because the branding was classy, and the description sounded like something I could use to hold my hair in place for most of the day. After trying it out using various quantities of the paste, I ultimately had to come to grips with the fact that this product wasn't going to live up to my expectations. To be fair I have very thick, fairly long (4-6 inches), wavy hair so keeping it under control is no simple task. Perhaps others will consider this product a perfect fit. Here is a list of the pros and cons from my perspective:

Pros:
- flat, pliable finish (not a lot of added sheen and it doesn't crust over once it sets)
- decent price and cool branding

Cons:
- The hold was not sufficient for my hair and once it gave out, which it did in about an hour, it lost most of its staying power. I had to constantly keep the hair from falling into my forehead.
- The smell was very unpleasant for me as it reminded me of a gross girl's perfume. It has an obnoxious citrus, floral scent which might be perfect for some, but I enjoy a spicier, cleaner smell to my hair products.
- The paste did little to tame my thick hair which resulted in a more matted down puffy look than I would prefer

Ultimately, this product may be right for some, but it was a bust for me. I ended up trying the Zeus Firm Hold Pomade and it has much better holding power and control for about the same price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for asian hair.
Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2016

This stuff works great. I have that thick Asian hair that needs to be tamed. Have used spiking glue on the past but that got too "crunchy/rigid", tied a wax stick that worked but got greasy as the day went on, then used a matte clay that I loved (Sebastian xkah) however that is no longer in production, so I had to find an alternative. This does the trick perfectly! It provides great hold with no crunch. Easy to restyle through the day and is not sticky. It is "solid" when at room temp, and works into a cream when rubbed in your palms so it can be easily applied, then re-solidifies. Hair looks natural. The smell is a light vanilla scent -not strong enough to overpower any other scent you may wear, but not bad on its own. Contains lanolin, so hair is conditioned as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great hold. Hard to apply.
Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2017

I decided to deviate from what I normally use (Giovanni wicked wax/pomade) and try out something new. After much looking I decided to buy this product.
It definitely has a very good hold and lasts pretty much the whole day. It has a matte finish and if applied correctly works nicely.
The hard part is applying it correctly.
I'm not really a fan of products that are hard to get out of the container. It means that it's going to dry in my hair just that hard. I basically have to chip it out with my nails and then rub it between my hands to heat it up.
The problem is if you rub it between your fingers you still are left with clumps between the cracks in each finger so you need to rub it in your palm instead.
The palm doesn't exactly go between your hair. your fingers do.
Basically you need to use a lot more of this product if you want to really get it into your hair and I usually don't like to apply too much product. I guess I'm more into those wax like pomades that come out of the container much easier and can easily be applied easily.
But if you like dry firm waxes this is a good one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Smell, Mid range price that competes with high ranged price products, excellent stand alone product regardless of price&smell
Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2017

I've bought this product 3 times throughout a whole year. It didn't last me a year, each probably lasted me 2 or 3 months, but I had to keep buying it. I've tried hair product like crazy alongside this one and this is always my nice fallback for when my "tests" don't go well. For the price I feel like I got every penny worth of it, I have medium thick wavey hair, normally I cut it short and have it grow back to thick hair before I cut it again, I don't cut my hair every weekend. More like every 3 weeks to a month, max 2 months, so I needed a product that could handle shorter hair which most product can, the challenge was my thick wavey hair, I found with American Crew I was using more product at a time to get my hair through the day, even though it was cheaper it ran out faster just because I had to keep apply it. Gold Digger by Vilain, exceptional rival to the beeswax paste. They hold very similar, priced similar (Gold Digger being slightly more), but they feel and smell totally different which is expected (this is paste, Gold Digger is wax, American Crew is fiber[which held better than its product sibling, American Crew paste]). Wax is more watery or oil based, as this being paste feels more solid, oil is typically easier to spread but also easier to come off your hair when exposed to water. Also the beeswax smells amazing, I never noticed how terrible of a scent hair product had once I ran out of the beeswax and tried other products.

Our house is kept rather on the cool side causing balm to be more of a paste. Had to warm under hot water. Not a fault of the product. Just need something a bit more to the butter side of things. Held beard very well.
