I discovered Olivina Men Organic Lip Balms while scouring the web for lip balms that do not contain lanolin, coconut, or sunscreen. Olivina's products are intended for men; I am not a man, but I like this lip balm. It leaves my lips feeling comfortable and nourished. The first thing I noticed was the unusual oval shape of its tube. This doesn't affect application, but it might be intended to lie flatter in your pocket than a round tube. I prefer unflavored lip balm, but that is not an option in Olivina so I chose Ginger Citrus. It does, indeed, smell like ginger and lemon. If I want to taste it, I have to do so deliberately. The balm doesn't get in my mouth much from normal use. Note that Ginger Citrus should not be confused with Ginger Beer, a scent option in some of Olivina's body care products.
The first ingredient is organic olive oil; the second is beeswax. Olivina lip balm falls on the waxy end of the spectrum, the other end of the spectrum being oily. That's not a bad thing; the wax is soft, not dry. The wax may help the product stay on the lips longer than a typical balm, but I haven't noticed much difference in that department. It does, however, make the balm less glossy than is typical. I tend to think this was deliberate in a men's product. As I am a woman, I will note that this balm does not sheer out lipstick that is applied on top. This will be a good thing for some people, but I like to sheer my lipsticks out, so I use a different balm under lipsticks. If you want your lipstick color to remain in tact, or if you want to minimize gloss, this balm is great. Vegetarian but not vegan.
