5.0 out of 5 starsNever going back to typical toothpaste!
Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2018
This toothpaste is amazing! So kind of a long story, but I was having some serious
issues with my teeth. While I take care of them pretty well (I don't smoke, get cleanings,
etc), they just weren't looking as white as I wanted them to, and weirdly, I was having
some serious dragon breath that I just couldn't seem to shake.

I had looked at a bunch of different options, tried all the typical things like whitening
strips and mouthwash, but then my dentist told me that my enamel is naturally weaker
or something? Apparently, it's a genetic thing? And all that mouthwash and whitening
strips were a no-go for me. Plus I'm also trying to be careful about what I put in my
body, so I really wanted to find a natural alternative. Just one problem...a lot of the
natural things I tried just didn't work that well.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. I was googling for some info about natural oral
health (and getting really freaked out about triclosan!!) and I saw this toothpaste, so I
thought I'd give it a try. I really liked how it had xylitol and activated charcoal, since I had
come across a couple of studies showing how the first actually kills the type of bacteria
that causes bad breath, and the second kind of acts like a whitening magnet to pull the
bad stuff off your teeth, and after going down a little bit of a research rabbit hole, I got
really interested in how the L. paracasei in it might help. Apparently scientists have
found that it crowds out the bad bacteria in your mouth so they can't do as much
damage. Told you I went down a research rabbit hole :)

To be honest, I wasn't expecting to see that much of a difference. But hey, their other
things seem really science-backed and what did I have to lose? All I can say is WOW.
My teeth look amazing, much whiter than I expected after such a short time, and my
breath is back to normal –– no more using mouthwash after every meal, no more
wondering if people are thinking about it while I'm talking to them. I don't know what was
going on in my mouth, but thank God that it's taken care of now! Now I've got my whole
family using it. The kids love it because it turns their teeth black … and I like that it's
healthy for them and flavored like normal toothpaste so they'll actually use it.

3.0 out of 5 starsI wasn't a fan of this product
Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2018
Unfortunately, this charcoal toothpaste has not made any improvement with whitening my teeth whatsoever, not even one shade or a hint of being whiter. I had high hopes considering the product description, but the result was disappointing.

The toothpaste does not have a bad taste at all, in fact you can taste a some what minty flavor. Not a huge minty taste but enough to notice. It is a little on the thinner side, so don't expect a thick paste to come out. You don't need a lot on your toothbrush either. Also, make sure you spit in the sink carefully as this does get all over. I have had no issues with it staining my teeth or making them worse, just not better, whiter or brighter!

What doesn't work so great for me, just may work better for you, hence my giving 3 stars instead of 1. The tube should last a very long time. I have used this now for almost 4 weeks and can't really notice much gone and I did put the toothpaste all along my toothbrush.

I passed this along to one of my older children, hoping they will have a better experience with it and notice brighter, whiter teeth. As for myself, no, I do not feel the price was worth this tube of toothpaste and find that baking soda, which only cost .50, works much better. IF my son has a better experience, I will update my review with a better rating. If he does not, then no, I would not recommend this to others, nor would I purchase it again. Sorry sellers, for this bad review but I am just being honest. Maybe you need to make some changes to your ingredients so it works as described?

5.0 out of 5 stars Show and Tell with my Dentist
Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2018
Size: 4 Ounce (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
I feel that this toothpaste does an incredible job. I used it for about a month before my last dental appointment as an experiment. I also brought it into my dentist to see what she had to say about it.

In my experience, my teeth felt very clean. This toothpaste did a good job getting rid of that rough coating that starts to develop on your teeth (I'm sure there is a technical term - no idea what it is). The flavor is very subtle - which is fine for me - I don't need my toothpaste to taste like a bowl of candy. I must admit that the first couple of times I used this, I did pause before putting the black toothpaste into my mouth. Completely psychological weirdness on my part, but quickly got over it. Then I thought I would try to gross out my wife with it. Sadly she didn't want to play.

So, off to the dentist with toothpaste in hand to play show-and-tell. Overall she was very happy with the condition of my teeth (no cavities! and very easy clean from the hygienist). I showed her the toothpaste to get her opinion. She was very excited about the Xylitol and happily explained why. We both agreed that my teeth had whitened up a shade or two. She assured me too that based on what she saw in the ingredients and upon examination of my teeth, that this toothpaste wasn't doing any damage. I was a little worried that it might be too abrasive, but she said that wasn't the case. She wasn't ready to commit to the potential efficacy of the probiotic aspect but did understand what they were getting at. The one issue she had was that it didn't have fluoride. Ultimately, she suggested that I use my regular fluoride toothpaste in the evening, before bed, to give the fluoride a chance to set up on my teeth overnight and use this in the morning. A reasonable compromise? She indicated that the "other" toothpaste I use wouldn't disrupt the bacterial load this one was trying to establish.

All-in-all, I have had a good experience with this toothpaste and continue to use it - but for my morning brush leaving the evening to my traditional sensitive teeth fluoridated toothpaste. This has the added benefit of doubling the life of the tube, which is still a bit on the expensive side.

4.0 out of 5 stars First Impression: 3 star (will update)

*UPDATE*
You get used to the taste of the toothpaste after a couple uses and it really does leave my mouth feeling super clean. I've noticed a very clear difference in the whiteness of my teeth so I am giving this product a four star review. Still, would I repurchase this product for the price? I don't know yet.

I just used this for the first time and I have taken away 2 stars so far because of two reasons:
1. When I opened the tube and removed the seal, I had to squeeze harder than normal to get any product out. For a brand new product, this shouldn't be the case. I realized that there is quite a bit of air in the tube which means it is not completely full of product. Therefore I'd be interested to know if my tube has the labeled amount of product, especially for a $14 toothpaste.
2. The taste is nowhere near "mint". The smell has a hint of mint, so really a hint is all you get when tasting it. In reality I was very surprised to find an unpleasant taste. If I could pinpoint the taste I would call it a mix of dirt/soil + moldy-mildew taste. No joke...no exaggeration, a legit dirt/mold taste. It was very shocking and unexpected. I'm not picky and I actually love odd flavors..I've had anise, chai, and basil flavored pastes in the past. This is a very earthy taste but in a very unpleasant way. I'm not sure if overtime I will get used to it.

It doesn't foam up at all and it's very thin. This means that it's different to brush with and it sprays black/grey liquid all over your sink when you spit. So far my teeth feel very clean so I can't complain about the job it did cleaning my teeth. My mouth feels very fresh and the only taste that thankfully stayed was that hint of mint I mentioned. I paid $14 for this toothpaste so you bet I'll keep using it. I will update my review when I can further review the product after a good while of use. So far based on the taste, air in the tube, and the price I would most likely not buy again.

I was in search of a healthier toothpaste that did not contain chemicals, and came across this on a google search. It arrived sealed and after having the toothpaste for over a month, the packaging and bottle has lasted. It still looks like a brand new bottle. I have found that a small amount of product will dry around the mouth of squeeze tube between sues, but easily comes off and does not effect the product. The flavor is minty, but the toothpaste does not act or taste like “traditional” toothpaste. It does not foam as advertised & it tastes like a more natural product. I have sensitive teeth & this product seems to help similar to other products I’ve used in the past (like sensodyne or MI Paste). I would recommend trying it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great toothpaste.

Myself and my young daughter using this toothpaste for almost 6 months now. This is a great product, we loved it. I'm not going to sugar coat my review, For most people like us, who are used to all commercialized toothpaste this one their is a little bit of adjustment for the taste not for me but for kids very slight adjustment but it's worth it once the kid passed that stage of adjustment my daughter loved it and I feel and saw the difference. No more bad breath in the morning when you wake up, whitens your teeth and you feel great and freshen after you used it. Most important NO FLOURIDE. For my family, We are not going back to regular toothpaste that full of very bad chemicals, that harm our body. Price is slight hard on the budget but overall very worth of your penny. I would recommend to people who really serious on their overall health not just their mouth.

1.0 out of 5 stars This product may harm enamel, the probiotics you are paying for are deactivated, not cheap, and could impact hormone levels.
Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2018
Size: 4 Ounce (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
Putting aside the taste and consistency, the combination of ingredients makes no sense. I reached out to the company over a week ago, asking for an explanation before writing this and got no real response, only a let me ask the product development team and get back to you. Diatomaceous earth (DE) fossilized remains of diatoms. The hardness scale rating of DE is unclear, ranging from 1.5 to 7 depending on where you look and who you trust. Dental enamel is somewhere between 3-4. My dentist said I could use it to polish my teeth occasionally, but not daily. That when I use DE on my teeth leaves them feeling smooth and shiny leaves me to believe DE is harder than dental enamel. Translation: I think my dentist is correct in so far as DE used regularly will damage your enamel. What I take most issue with is the probiotics, coupled with Tea Tree Oil, and possibly the activated carbon. Tea Tree oil is such a strong antiseptic that the NIH has declared it effective against MRSA. It kills lactobacillus at concentrations of 1-2%. Trace amounts regularly have demonstrated negative estrogenic effects on hormones to boot. Translation: Tea Tree oil could be giving me low T. At levels of 1-2%, it would kill off the probiotics I'm pay for in this toothpaste, but in the manufacturers defense it might keep the toothpaste from carrying other dangerous pathogens. The manufacturer claims the probiotics in the product are deactivated. Then what's the point? And activated carbon potentially could absorb the tea tree oil, rendering it harmless, but then what's the point?

Bottom Line: This product may appear to work well as a polish, but it may harm enamel, the probiotics you are paying for are deactivated (dead?), It's not cheap, and the tea tree oil very well could impact hormone levels.

Love this product, but when I bought it last year for the first time it was $11.99. Pricy for toothpaste, but it lived up to its promises. Bought it again a few months back and the price went up to $15.99. Made my final purchase moments ago at $18.99. Too high. Sadly, this is my last purchase at these prices.

I do like this product and can tell a big difference in my enamel. Food doesn't stick to my teeth anymore (i just ordered my 3rd tube) and my mouth feels more hydrated. The only thing I'm disappointed in is that there isn't an option for a probiotic toothpaste without the charcoal. I'm really not fond of the taste nor the mess it makes. If they made a product without the charcoal it'd be the perfect toothpaste!
