Update:
Contacted Snapper support via phone during business hours. Answered promptly, but they were unable to find any information pertaining the the model number of the cultivator. He suggested I take the cultivator to the nearest Snapper service center, which was about an hour drive from me. Rather than spend a bunch of time and gas money at what I assume would have been a pointless effort, I contacted Amazon and began the return process. Amazon accepted the return and sent me another unit out promptly, which was not defective like the first. Hole was in the right place. So Kudos to Amazon, but Snapper's support still gets a D-.
After assembling and using the new unit to till up my raised garden, I am pleased with it. Takes a lot less time and effort than using the cultivator attachment for the string trimmer tool, which is what I did last season. It does drain the 2.0ah battery fairly quickly but since I have two of them I was able to get the entire garden done in about an hour. Was able to get a lot more leverage on the tool compared to the string trimmer attachment, which meant I was able to till much deeper in a single pass. Last season it took me several passes with the attachment cultivator and I still don't think it got as deep as the walk behind unit did in a single pass. So definitely worth it.

To the people who complain this is tool only / battery separate: you should not buy this particular tiller because it's good and you need one. You should do your research and find a battery powered yard tool brand / ecosystem that suits your needs and then commit to that ecosystem. I did that with the Snapper 82V system a couple years ago and now have 4 tools (mower, blower, trimmer, and now the tiller), and the same two original batteries. I wouldn't want to pay for a new battery and charger every time I bought a new tool!
